Job Description: Bosun for a US flagged Chemical/Oil tanker. Looking for experienced crew with a minimum of five (5) years of related vessel experience along with at least three (3) years of appropriate experience in the job function. In addition to this experience, we are looking for individuals with a proven track record and the following required documents / job skills. All applicants must have: United States Coast Guard merchant mariner’s document with the appropriate license / endorsement to hold a position on board a US flagged vessel. Ability to read English, read instructions, operating manuals, and other necessary documentation as appropriate for the job. Ability to maintain “stable personality” during extended stays away from family and friends and in trying situations. Ability to write English, fill out checklist, take U. S. Coast Guard exams and write reports (if required by the company). Ability to effectively communicate in English with others Ability to follow oral and written English instructions. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. For example, counting quantities in stores, figuring amount of line needed for blocks and rigging, load capacities and actual weight lifted. Mechanical comprehension to complete the functions of the job. Basic knowledge of and willingness to follow company rules and safety and environmental policies. Physical Demands and Working Conditions Work up to 180 days on board a US flagged ocean going vessel. Individuals must have endurance for working under stressful situations such as storms, high seas, long voyages, long work hours, unfamiliar surroundings, confining surroundings, extreme heat and cold, noise and vibration. Work in areas with vapors, fumes, dust, dirt, oil and grease. Live in small quarters on board a vessel. For Deck workers, they must be able to handle mooring lines in excess of 150 ft weighing 2 to 2.5 pounds per foot short distances of 50 feet in addition to being able to handle 50 foot fire wires by hand. Handle wire rope and mooring wires in excess of 150 feet weighing 7 to 21 pounds per foot on turns (reels) which are mechanically operated. Handle wire and winches on lifeboat falls. Lift and carry equipment hoses, tools, supplies and store weighing up to 50 pounds for distances up to 100 feet. Carry light items less than 20 pounds up and down ladders. Ascend and descend ladders and stairs that range from 3 feet to 75 feet. Climb beams, longitudinal, shelves, platforms and various structures associated with tankers and dry cargo ships, including masts, stages and vertical bulkheads. |
