Job Description: The equipment engineer will be responsible for working with our Equipment Engineering group in the design of structural steel frameworks, machinery foundations, crane structure, dredge apparatus, pile driving apparatus, crane cabs, deck houses, stairs, catwalks, gangways, scaffolding, horizontal lifelines, guard rails, and fall arrest tie off points. The department designs and/or checks all lifting apparatus such as spreader bars, lift beams, blocks, links, padeyes, etc. The department assists in rigging, heavy lift planning, and design of false work. The department also may from time to time assist in the repair of winches and sizing of drive train components. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: May complete other projects and duties as assigned. 1. Ability to investigate all relative information pertaining to assigned task. 2. Ability to develop a specification for assigned task. 3. Ability to develop various load cases for assigned task. 4. Ability to develop initial layout with preliminary calculations. 5. Ability to develop a finished CAD drawing suitable for shop use. 6. Ability to produce a final set of calculations. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Civil/Structural Engineering. Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE). Familiarity with the AISC Manual of Steel Construction, including the ability to apply all the calculations in the Specification. The ability to size welds using the Elastic Method. The ability to produce finished shop drawings in 2D AutoCAD. Preferred Qualifications: Professional Engineering (PE) exam. Familiarity with lifting apparatus such as cranes, winches, etc. Familiarity with basic concepts of naval architecture such as barge stability and barge structure. Familiarity with various mechanical components such as motors, couplings, shafts, bearings, brakes, etc. COMPUTER/MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Auto Desk 2D AutoCAD is required. MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Valid drivers license required. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical materials and documents. Ability to prepare professional correspondence to customers, regulatory agencies, and members of the business community. |
