Job Description:
Duties Performed

• The Chief Engineer is responsible for the engineering personnel on the ship and works in close cooperation with the Master to ensure safe ship operations.
• Perform all the duties of the Engineering Officer position and the following
• Plan and schedule safe maintenance and repair operations.
• Start up and shut down main propulsion and auxiliary machinery.
• Operate, monitor and evaluate engine performance and capacity.
• Maintain safety of engine equipment, systems and services.
• Manage fuel and ballast operations.
• Operate electrical and electronic control equipment.
• Test, detect faults and maintain and restore electrical and electronic control equipment to operating condition.
• Detect and identify the cause of machinery malfunctions and correct faults.
• All other duties as required under STCW-95 table A-III/2.
Job Requirements
• Must have served as a Chief Engineer for 5 years and have completed all required STCW training.
• Special Skills/Knowledge: Professional communication skills (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills that include the ability to work effectively with clients, peers, subordinates, and superiors. Strong problem solving skills, ability to multi-task, and meet required deadlines. Knowledge of computers with exposure to MS Office suite and ABS Nautical Systems NS5 or comparable software. Fully conversant in all class, regulatory and flag state rules and regulations as they apply to marine vessels. Ability to support and foster support toward the Company’s HSE and Quality Management System.
• Must have completed advanced fire fighting. Knowledge of DP ships highly desirable.

• Travel: Ability to travel to and participate in activities relevant to vessel’s operation on average 50% of time. Travel destinations may include both domestic and international travel.

• Licenses/Certificates: Must hold a Chief Engineer’s license and STCW.
          
STCW Minimum Required:

Survival A-VI/1-1 Fire Fighting VI/1-2
Elementary First Aid A-VI/1-3 Advance Fire Fighting A-VI/3
Medical First Aid A-VI/4-2 Personal Safety A-VI/1-4
Company Requirement: HUET

Company Required Training:
• HSE Management Course
• OPITO offshore survival/HUET or equivalent.
• ENG1 or UKOOA medical
• Advance Fire Fighting
• Incident investigation

HSE Requirements:
• The individual has the duty to care for their own health and of others affected by their actions at work;
• Must comply so far as he/she is reasonably able, with the safety procedures and directions given by FMMG.
• Must not willfully interfere with or misuse items or facilities provided in the interests of safety and health of FMMG employees; and
• Must, in accordance with agreed FMMG procedures for accident and incident reporting, report potential and actual hazards.
